One of the many brilliant moments of yesterday’s IPL-4 clash between the Mumbai Indians and the Kochi Tuskers Kerala. Here, Kieron Pollard had made a mess while trying to prevent the previous ball from reaching the boundary. With this, he came very close to making up for it with his brilliant athleticism and common-sense.

Ravindra Jadeja had lofted for what looked like a straight six. Seeing that the ball was flying too high even for his monstrous height, Pollard leaped in the air, got one hand to it and almost contorted his body enough to take the catch. But gravity took over, and Pollard started falling down close to the boundary. Realising that if he held on to the ball he would concede a six, he hurled the ball back in to play, toppled to the ground, and got up quickly enough to keep the batsmen to a single.

Too bad that Mumbai had to lose this match, especially because Sachin had scored his first Twenty20 century in the first innings. Luck, I tell you. I wish there was a photograph of Sachin executing the “Helicopter Shot”, something made popular by Mahendra Singh Dhoni over the last few years. That was some sight.
