Just Watched: Yeh Saali Zindagi

The first film that comes to mind when Sudhir Mishra comes to mind is the brilliant Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, a film that was bold without losing its charm, given the setting. Here, Sudhir Mishra doesn’t try to stereotype himself and that’s this film’s biggest strength. He allows the characters to come into their own, something that they live up to, making the film a rather enjoyable experience.

The most important thing here, are the superb performances by the cast led by the Irrfan Khan, who is amazing in the role of the conflicted accountant. Arunoday Singh as the gangster trying to reform himself does a great job too, and so does the reliable Sushant Singh, who plays a corrupt police officer. The women don’t have much to do, which is quite surprising as I was expecting a lot from the usually charming Chitrangada Singh. Aditi Rao Hydari looked beautiful and did a decent job with her part.

The Delhi setting only adds to the flavour. This film isn’t brilliant like many of Mishra’s earlier films but is worth a dekko because of its performances, and witty one-liners, something that isn’t seen much in Hndi movies these days.
